Medstone International Inc.: The Aliso Viejo company, which sells instruments to pulverize kidney stones, reported a net loss of $238,471, or 4 cents a share, for 1996, which included a $6.3 million charge for legal fees and costs associated with the settlement of a class-action lawsuit in the second quarter. Medstone recorded net income of $3.9 million, or 70 cents a share, for the previous year. Revenue was down 2% to $18 million from $18.4 million. The 1995 figure included revenue of $951,310 from Endocare, which Medstone spun off at the end of that year.
Net income for the fourth quarter more than doubled to $1.4 million, or 25 cents a share, from $653,930, or 12 cents a share, for the corresponding 1995 period. The 1996 quarter included a pretax gain of $553,372 from the sale of securities held for investment. Revenue advanced 30% to $5.2 million from $4 million.
