Canyons 91, Long Beach 76--Forward Gohar Tumanian and guard Wendy Gussner each scored 25 points for the host Cougars, who won their 18th consecutive game.
Canyons (30-4), ranked second in the state and seeded No. 2 in the regional, led from start to finish using its running game to produce 25 fast-break baskets.
Nikki Turner scored 18 points and guard LaCresha Clark had 10 points and 16 assists for the Cougars, who forced 27 turnovers and outrebounded the 15th-seeded Vikings , 47-28.
Canyons used a 19-0 run midway through the first half to lead, 54-30, at halftime. Long Beach (17-13) pulled to within 84-76 with 2:38 to play before the Cougars scored the final six points.
Tumanian got the Cougars off to a fast start, scoring 10 of Canyons’ first 15 points. Nita Noel scored 25 points for Long Beach.
The Cougars had a bye in the first round.
