Rally in Last Minute Carries Valley, 76-70

The Valley College women’s basketball team waited until the last minute, but the Monarchs finally secured a 76-70 victory over Pasadena in a Southern California Regional second-round game Wednesday night at Valley.
The Monarchs (24-10) advanced to a third-round game Saturday at Canyons. The winner of that game qualifies for the state championships March 13-15 in San Jose.
Trailing, 67-66, with 1:10 to play, Valley scored 10 of the last 13 points, including four free throws by Tanya McGlaughlin.
McGlaughlin finished with a team-high 19 points and had seven rebounds, and teammate Lisa Nielsen had 10 points and eight rebounds.
The Monarchs were forced to rally after Pasadena (12-14) rallied from a 14-point deficit and took a 59-57 lead on two free throws by Jackie Sadler (20 points) with 6:00 to play.
Valley grabbed the lead for good on two free throws by Jacque Tennies (17 points and nine rebounds) with 58 seconds left.
The Monarchs jumped to a 12-1 lead in the first 6:15 when Pasadena was 0 for 17 from the field.
