Hikers Find Body in Angeles Forest

A decomposed body was found in a popular hiking area of Angeles National Forest, sheriff’s deputies said Thursday.

The body, which could not be identified as male or female, was found by a passerby Wednesday afternoon 200 feet down an embankment at mile 13.1 of Little Tujunga Road, said Sgt. Susan Cross of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Hikers frequent the area, but it is remote enough that the body, which was not hidden, went undiscovered for some time, Cross said.

Sheriff’s deputies went to the site at 8 a.m. Thursday so they could search in daylight, Cross said.

The coroner’s office is now trying to identify the body, and sheriff’s homicide detectives are investigating. Cross said there were no obvious signs of foul play, but that homicide investigations are conducted on all unexplained deaths.
