Fargas Can’t Keep Loyola From Title

Justin Fargas won three events and teammate Chris Forde placed first in two, but Notre Dame High lost to Loyola, 75-52, in a Mission League boys’ track and field meet Thursday at Loyola.

Loyola (8-0, 6-0 in the Mission League) claimed its ninth consecutive title and has won 54 consecutive league meets.

Fargas, a junior, won the 100 meters in 10.6 seconds, the long jump and triple jump with career-bests of 22 feet 8 1/4 inches and 45-5 3/4 and also ran the first leg on Notre Dame’s 400 relay team that clocked a winning 41.8.

Forde, a senior, won the 200 in 21.8 after taking the 400 in 48.6 for the Knights (8-1, 5-1), just ahead of teammate Roderick Arzu (49.0). They were part of the 400 relay team, along with David Escobar.

Harvard-Westlake 64, Crespi 63--Crespi’s Richie Walker won the 800 meters and the triple jump and was part of the winning 1,600-meter relay team, but the Celts (4-5, 2-4) fell in a Mission League meet at Crespi.

Walker won the 800 in 2:06 and the triple jump with a mark of 41-0 1/2. Oscar Meraz of Crespi won the 1,600 and the 3,200.

Jake Young, who won the long jump for the Wolverines (6-3, 3-3) at 19-9 1/4, clinched the victory for his team with a third-place showing in the triple jump.

Burroughs 84, Hart 52--Geoff Burton won three events for Burroughs (7-1, 4-1) in a Foothill League meet.

Burton clocked 16.2 in the 110 high hurdles, 42.3 in the 300 intermediates and cleared 12-6 in the pole vault.

GIRLS’ TRACK

Flintridge Sacred Heart 71, Chaminade 47--Liz Giltner won four events for the Eagles, but the Tologs (2-5, 1-5) won their first Mission League meet in three years.

Giltner, defending state champion in the high jump, had winning marks of 15.2 in the 100 high hurdles, 5-6 in the high jump, 16-3 in the long jump and 33-8 1/4 in the shotput for Chaminade (0-6, 0-6).

Flintridge Sacred Heart’s Jenn Strople won the 200 in 28.6, the 400 in 1:06.4 and ran legs on the winning 400 and 1,600 relay teams.

Harvard-Westlake 66, Louisville 50--Becky Rauth won three events for the Wolverines (7-2, 4-1) in a Mission League meet at Crespi High, taking the 100-meter high hurdles in 17.2, the 300 low hurdles in 47.4, and the triple jump at 31-1 1/2.

BOYS’ TENNIS

Calabasas 15, Malibu 3--The Coyotes (15-5, 8-0) clinched the Frontier League title by defeating the Sharks for the second time this season. Nick Weiss and Alex Menichini swept at Nos. 1 and 2 singles.

GOLF

Alemany 202, Notre Dame 203--Brian Woolf made a par putt on the final hole to clinch the nine-hole Mission League match at Porter Valley Country Club.

Had Woolf missed the putt, Notre Dame would have won the tiebreaker based on he score of the sixth golfer. Anthony Harju was medalist with a three-over par 38.

Crespi 182, Louisville 295--John Pina, Steven Wong, C.W. Leach and Justin Irvine shot a one-over-par 36s to share medalist honors for the Celts (5-13, 3-10) in a Mission League match at Woodland Hills Country Club.

Marmonte League Championships--Westlake sophomore J.T. Kohut fired an even-par 69 to lead the Warriors to a team score of 363 at Los Robles in the second of four rounds.

Newbury Park shaved 40 strokes from its first-round score and shot 387 to move into a three-way tie for second place with Agoura and Camarillo. Each has a score of 814, 68 strokes behind Westlake.

GIRLS’ SWIMMING

Calabasas 110, Carpinteria 57--Aya Osuga, Dana Valk and Rebecca Kritz won individual events for the Coyotes (12-0, 5-0) in a Frontier League meet.

Osuga clocked 2:02.87 in the 200 freestyle, Valk timed 1:06.56 in the 100 butterfly and Kritz swam 1:15.97 in the 100 breaststroke.

Tammi Hussain set her fourth school record, 2:18.87 in the 200 individual medley.
