TONIGHT’S GAME
GAME ANGELS’ ALLEN WATSON (0-2, 7.50 ERA) vs. WHITE SOX’S JAMES BALDWIN (0-3, 5.08 ERA)
* Update--The White Sox have been baseball’s most disappointing team, mired in last place in the AL Central throughout April and still waiting for the potent bats of Albert Belle and Frank Thomas to kick into gear. Thomas is hitting .319 but has only two home runs, and Belle is hitting .206 with four homers and 14 RBIs. Belle, the cleanup batter, was supposed to protect Thomas, the No. 3 hitter, in the lineup, but Thomas has already drawn 23 walks, an indication that opponents would rather face Belle than Thomas. The Angels’ weekend rotation could provide a chance for Chicago to snap out of its offensive funk--Anaheim’s three scheduled starters have a combined 1-3 record and 7.62 ERA this season, giving up 44 runs in 52 innings.
* Saturday, 4 p.m.--Angels’ Dennis Springer (0-0, 7.82) vs. Doug Drabek (1-3, 7.43).
* Sunday, 11 a.m.--Shigetoshi Hasegawa (1-1, 7.63) vs. Jamie Navarro (2-1, 4.50).
