OFFENSE: Kariya and Selanne each had two two-goal games against Phoenix. The Red Wings’ top line misfired in the first round, but is dangerous. Shanahan plays the power forward role in the manner of Keith Tkachuk of Phoenix.
* DEFENSE: Expect tight checking and a neutral-zone trap from both teams.
* GOALTENDING: After a shaky stretch, Hebert rebounded strongly in Games 6 and 7. Vernon has started all six playoff games for the Red Wings. He and Osgood split the job in the regular season.
* COACHING: Duck Coach Ron Wilson has earned praise for his poise and motivational tactics. Detroit’s Scotty Bowman is the winningest coach in NHL history.
* INTANGIBLES: Hungry, talented, young team on the rise versus seasoned, talented team hoping to win the Stanley Cup to fend off harsh criticism. Don’t be surprised if the Ducks push the Red Wings to seven games.
