Mighty Ducks (36-33-13) vs. Detroit Red Wings (38-26-18)
Series format: Best-of-seven
* DUCKS AT A GLANCE: True, they have only one strong offensive line. But the Paul Kariya-Steve Rucchin-Teemu Selanne line might be the best in hockey. Kariya and Selanne each scored five goals in the series against Phoenix. J.J. Daigneault, who won a Stanley Cup with the Montreal Canadiens in 1993, and Dmitri Mironov are the top scoring defensemen in the playoffs with seven points each. Goaltender Guy Hebert had a 2.11 goals-against average and recorded his first playoff shutout in Game 7.
* RED WINGS AT A GLANCE: The Red Wings haven’t won the Stanley Cup since 1955, the longest drought in the NHL. They struggled offensively in the early games of their series against St. Louis, but Coach Scotty Bowman shuffled his lineup and the Red Wings went on to win in six games. Bowman reunited “the Russian Five,” putting Sergei Fedorov, Igor Larionov and Vyacheslav Kozlov on a line and pairing Slava Fetisov and Vladimir Konstantinov on defense. Detroit went 0-3-1 against the Ducks this season.
* RED WINGS’ NO. 1 LINE: LW Brendan Shanahan (three goals, six points in playoffs); C Steve Yzerman (two goals, three points); RW Tomas Sandstrom (zero goals, one point).
* RED WINGS’ TOP DEFENSEMEN: Larry Murphy (two goals, five points); Nicklas Lidstrom (zero goals, two points).
* RED WING GOALIES: Mike Vernon (4-2 record, 2.07 goals-against average); Chris Osgood (0-0, 0.00).
* DUCKS’ NO. 1 LINE: LW Paul Kariya (five goals, nine points in playoffs); C Steve Rucchin (one goal, two points); RW Teemu Selanne (five goals, eight points).
* DUCKS’ TOP DEFENSEMEN: J.J. Daigneault (two goals, seven points); Dmitri Mironov (one goal, seven points).
* DUCK GOALIES: Guy Hebert (4-3, 2.11 goals-against); Mikhail Shtalenkov (0-0, 0.00).
