Ocean View Beats Rosary in Ninth Inning, 1-0

Danielle Garcia scored on a one-out fielder’s choice in the ninth inning as Ocean View defeated Rosary, 1-0, in a Golden West softball game to remain in first place in the league. Ocean View (13-7, 6-0) leads Westminster by a game.
Rosary threatened to take the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning when the Royals loaded the bases against pitcher Sara Gulla (12-7) with no outs. But Gulla regained her composure and pitched out of the jam. Gulla finished with a two-hitter.
In another Golden West League game:
Westminster 9, Tustin 2--Lacy Hauxhurst was three for four, including a grand slam in the sixth, for Westminster (14-5-1, 5-1). Hauxhurst also doubled and scored three runs.
Brenda Quinn gave up two runs on four hits in seven innings and struck out 11 for Westminster.
In the Academy League:
Capistrano Valley Christian 1, Connelly 0--Lauren Capriotti (3-3) pitched a no-hitter with 13 strikeouts and seven walks and Elaina Cholas scored the winning run on a wild pitch in the fifth inning for Capistrano Valley Christian (8-6, 5-1).
Fairmont 8, Orangewood Academy 7 (6, time limit)--Vanessa Burns singled in the tying run in the sixth and Orangewood Academy then walked in the winning run for Fairmont (2-6, 1-5).
St. Margaret’s 7, Liberty Christian 2--Heather Webb was two for three with a triple, an RBI and two runs scored and Amber Arnold was two for four with an RBI for St. Margaret’s (13-4, 6-0).
In the Sea View League:
Irvine 7, Corona del Mar 0--Colleen Young (10-4) pitched a four-hitter with 12 strikeouts, and Lauren Mertz had a two-run single in a five-run second inning for Irvine (15-8, 4-2).
Santa Margarita 7, Newport Harbor 1--Jesseka Bartholemew was three for four with two RBIs and a run for Santa Margarita (14-7-1, 3-3). Danielle Rodriguez threw a four-hitter, struck out five and walked two for the Eagles. Molli Mullen was two for three with an RBI for Newport Harbor (8-10, 1-5).
Woodbridge 3, El Toro 0--Christy Robitaille (17-2) gave up five hits and struck out nine for third-ranked Woodbridge (25-2, 6-0), which has won 20 consecutive games.
In the South Coast League:
Capistrano Valley 4, Dana Hills 2--Alexis Smith and Rachel Forbes went three for four and Vanessa LaTorre tripled and scored for Capistrano Valley (7-12-1, 2-4).
Mater Dei 6, Mission Viejo 0--Tia Bollinger (11-2) and Marissa Young combined for a no-hitter, striking out 15 and each walked one batter for Mater Dei (20-3, 6-0).
San Clemente 6, Trabuco Hills 0 (14)--The Tritons scored five unearned runs in the top of the 14th to get the victory. Stephanie Swenson (12-7) went the distance, pitching a two-hitter and striking out 13 for San Clemente (13-8, 5-1).
In nonleague boys’ swimming:
Huntington Beach 129, Estancia 39--Anthony Iacopetti won the 50 freestyle (22.81) and the 100 breaststroke (1:05.18) for Huntington Beach (7-3). Jimmy Newton won the 500 freestyle (5:32.83) and the 100 backstroke (1:07.80) for Huntington Beach.
Villa Park 93, Buena Park 77--The 200 medley relay team and the 400 freestyle relay team of Chris Greene, Mike Nguyen, Chris Koontz and Kyle Baumgarner qualified for Division I Southern Section meet in both events with times of 1:44.64 and 3:24.94, respectively, for Villa Park (9-2).
In nonleague girls’ swimming:
Huntington Beach 112, Estancia 58--Meghan Casillan won the 100 butterfly (1:07.43), 100 breaststroke (1:19.64), and swam on the winning 200 medley relay and 200 freestyle relay teams for Huntington Beach (4-6).
Janella Bart won the 200 freestyle (1:59.53), 100 backstroke (1:05.49), and swam the second leg on the winning 200 medley relay team for Huntington Beach.
Irvine 206, University 115, Woodbridge 92--Danielle DeAlva finished first in 100 freestyle (53.6) and she was on the three winning relay teams for top-ranked Irvine (10-0). Erin Zehntner also posted victories in the 100 butterfly (59.96) and 500 freestyle (5:23.49) for the Vaqueros.
Villa Park 134, Buena Park 26--Maureen Dunn won the 50 freestyle in 25.69 seconds and the 100 butterfly in 1:04.85 for Villa Park (11-0).
In Century League boys’ tennis:
Villa Park 12, El Modena 6--Peter Feovenyessy upset B.K. Chang, 7-5, for El Modena (11-7, 4-4). The doubles team of Jeremy Shaw and Gene Hur won, 6-1, 6-0, 6-0, for Villa Park (10-6, 5-3).
In the Coastal League:
La Jolla Country Day 12, St. Margaret’s 6--Bill Sokol won two of three matches, 7-5, 6-7, 1-6, for St. Margaret’s (5-9, 3-3).
In the Orange League:
Brea Olinda 14, Savanna 7--Scott Koller improved to 24-0 with a sweep in singles, 6-0, 6-0, for Brea Olinda (11-10, 7-1).
