ValuJet, FAA Reportedly Face Censure

A report by safety regulators on the fatal crash of ValuJet Inc. Flight 592 will censure the airline and the Federal Aviation Administration, the Miami Herald reported. The National Transportation Safety Board’s final report on the crash is due in July. The DC-9 plunged into the Florida Everglades on May 11, 1996, killing all 110 people aboard. The Herald said the final report would censure ValuJet for “multiple faults, including deficient monitoring of its contractors and training of some employees.” ValuJet was not immediately available to comment. The Herald said the report also would censure SabreTech Corp., the contractor that handled the oxygen generators, “for numerous blunders in handling the devices.” It also said the report would censure the FAA “for failing to enforce its own regulations.”
