Committee Narrows Principal Search

Officials at the Newport-Mesa Unified School District said they expect to name a new principal of Newport Harbor High School by the end of the school year.
The search for a new principal began early this year when then-principal Bonnie Maspero announced she was leaving to become a school district administrator in Los Angeles County.
Since that time, a 10-member committee of parents, teachers and administrators has been sifting through applications. Trustee Dana Black said the committee is pleased with the candidates.
“There is a great pool of applicants,” she said.
More than 20 people applied for the post, she said, and many are highly-qualified educators. The committee will screen the applicants and send their top three choices to be interviewed by Supt. Mac Bernd. Bernd will then choose one applicant to meet the board for approval, most likely in June.
