The Cal State Northridge softball team received a berth Sunday in the NCAA Division I regional playoffs and will make its sixth consecutive postseason appearance since moving up to Division I in 1991.
Northridge (34-20-2) will be joined by host Fresno State (49-12), Big West Conference rival Long Beach State (43-18-1) and California (33-23) in one of eight four-team, double-elimination regional tournaments held throughout the country Friday through Sunday.
Northridge, ranked No. 19, will open against No. 11 Long Beach State on Friday. No. 4 Fresno State will play No. 25 Cal in the other first-round game Friday. Game times will be announced.
If Northridge faces Fresno State, a former Western Athletic Conference rival, it would be the third time in six years the teams have met in regional action.
