Genstar Completes Purchase of DuPont Unit

Genstar Capital said it completed the acquisition of DuPont Co.’s NEN Life Sciences unit for as much as $118 million and named former Pharmacia & Upjohn Co. Chairman and Chief Executive John Zabriskie to head it. Boston-based NEN Life Sciences makes chemicals used for labeling and detection in pharmaceuticals research. Genstar is a Foster City-based investment firm managing assets of about $500 million. The sale marks DuPont’s exit from the medical-products business. Zabriskie will become NEN president and chief executive Aug. 1. DuPont shares fell 25 cents to close at $62.44 on the NYSE.
