TEE TIME

While I am not a crossword puzzle aficionado, I am a football fan. I, therefore, feel moved to correct the criticism of Angelo S. Laiacona directed toward your crossword composers (Letters, June 29).
While it is true that the NFL does not allow its place-kickers to use a tee (except during kickoffs), the National Collegiate Athletic Assn. does permit college holders to place the ball on a tee after receiving a snap from center for place-kickers to use when attempting field goals and extra points.
I hope Laiacona doesn’t feel like a heel when he reads this. Every one puts their foot in their mouth now and then.
