The Ever-Continuing Reaction to the Tyson Circus Sideshow
- Share via
Mike Tyson was doomed the day he allowed himself to become a part of the Don King circus. I know Cus D’Amato is turning over in his grave and weeping for the iron-fisted young pugilist he trained and developed. Where Cus tried to instill some honor and pride in a talented young man, Don King fed Tyson a steady diet of hate and greed. You will notice that all of Tyson’s troubles began when King entered the picture.
Do what you will with Tyson, but get that egomaniacal parasite Don King out of boxing forever, please.

With all the jokes about Tyson the carnivore, sportswriters have provided us with zero creative means to save the abysmal state of boxing. Stop trying to be funny with your outdated ear jokes and offer a solution.
How about the one-purse scenario--80% to the winner, 20% to the loser? This stance would cure all the cancers associated with boxing. Assuming the purse was $60 million, you think Tyson would disqualify himself the way he did knowing he was only going to receive $12 million if he lost? He knew he was guaranteed $30 million before the fight started.
What steps are being taken by the Nevada State Athletic Commission to change this?

Rick Lozano mistakenly attributes an intelligent statement to Don King and is sued for $6 million. I suppose one has to protect his image.
