Home Ownership at a Near 17-Year High

Home ownership in the U.S. reached its highest quarterly level in nearly 17 years from April to June, Housing Secretary Andrew Cuomo said in a statement. In the second quarter, 65.7% of households owned their residences, up 0.3 percentage point from the first quarter. Home ownership rose 0.4 percentage point to 45.7% among minorities, 0.5 percentage point to 72.1% among whites and 0.8 percentage point to 51.3% among households headed by women. The central city ownership rate edged up 0.1 percentage point to 49.9%, and the suburban rate rose 0.5 percentage point to 72.6%.
