Ken Loach’s 1996 film pays moving and thoughtful tribute to the idealistic and often naive men and women drawn from the world over to fight for democracy and progressive reform in the Spanish Civl War. It’s an epic in which an intense working-class young man named David (Ian Hart, pictured with Rosana Pastor) decides to go to Spain and fight for the Republic (TMC Thursday at 9 p.m.).
