O.C. Projects Included in Transportation Plan

More than $4 billion in future Orange County transportation projects moved a step closer to reality Thursday by being included in a proposed regional transportation plan released by the Southern California Assn. of Governments.
Included in the plan are proposed projects to widen and improve the Garden Grove Freeway and other freeways and toll roads, as well as a possible freeway link between Orange and Riverside counties. Also included is a proposed $1.4-billion light-rail system through central Orange County.
Projects must be included in the association’s plan--which is updated every three years--to qualify for federal or state funding. Thursday’s release of the plan kicked off a six-month period of public discussion that lasts until April, when the association’s regional council is expected to vote on the matter.
The proposed 20-year plan covers the counties of Los Angeles, Riverside, San Bernardino, Imperial, Ventura and Orange.
