Nursing Home May Reopen by Year’s End

A nursing home that abruptly shut down, evicting 63 ailing residents without notice, may reopen under new management by the end of the year.
Reseda Care Center, a 99-bed convalescent home, was operated by John H. Robertson until it declared bankruptcy and closed its doors in September.
Phil Chase, president of the Chase Group, a Westlake Village-based nursing facility operator, said his company has signed a 10-year, $3.3-million lease and is waiting for the state to license the home.
Chase said he plans to change the home from a long-term care home to a short-term care facility, where patients recovering from recent illnesses would recuperate for three to six weeks at a time.
“We want to do rehabilitation and sub-acute care,” added Chase, who said he has been in the nursing-care business 20 years.
Chase also said he plans to invest more than $400,000 on repairs and renovations on the Reseda nursing home.
The last major work on the property was done more than a decade ago, he said.
The Chase Group owns another 99-bed facility in Simi Valley.
