Kevin Hatcher, returning after sitting out six games because of a leg injury, scored twice in the second period as the Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the Buffalo Sabres, 5-1, Monday night at Pittsburgh to extend their unbeaten streak to five games.
The Penguins are on a 4-0-1 roll and the victory marks only the second time this season they have won consecutive home games.
“Tonight, we were solid in every area,” captain Ron Francis said. “Our forecheck was solid, we were solid in the neutral zone and we did a good job in our end. If we play like that, we’ll have a lot more success.”
Montreal 2, San Jose 2--Scott Thornton’s first goal of the season 8:50 into the third period earned the Canadiens the tie at Montreal.
Shayne Corson also scored for the Canadiens. Patrick Marleau and Stephane Matteau got goals for the Sharks, unbeaten in four games.
