FedEx Earnings More Than Double

Federal Express Corp., citing a surge in business because of the United Parcel Service of America Inc. strike, reported net income of $143.3 million, or $1.22 a share, for its fiscal first quarter ended Aug. 31. That compares with $62 million, or 54 cents a share, a year earlier. Analysts’ average prediction was for 75 cents a share, according to First Call, which tracks forecasts.
