While a Valley secession bill awaits Gov. Pete Wilson’s signature, secessionists in Seattle have all but given up on their breakaway effort. Why? Charlie Chong, a leading secession proponent, has became part of the government he once blamed for the woes of west Seattle, above. He’s been elected to the City Council. “We aren’t pushing for the secession now,” he says, “and now that I’m running for mayor, it’s more remote that we will.”
