Serna Leads Santa Ana Past DeAnza, 2-1

Tomas Serna scored two goals to lead Santa Ana over host DeAnza, 2-1, in a community college men’s soccer state tournament semifinal game Saturday in Cupertino.
Santa Ana (21-1-3) will play in today’s final against Santa Barbara, which defeated West Valley, 2-1, also Saturday.
Serna, from Saddleback High, scored his 32nd goal of the season to break a 1-1 tie in the 60th minute. He scored on a header off a cross from Nick Purdom. Santa Ana assistant coach Jose Vasquez holds the school’s single-season record at 36.
Serna scored 57 seconds into the game to give the Dons a 1-0 lead off an assist from Greg Arcos. DeAnza (19-4-1) pulled even, 1-1, when Juan Torres scored in the 20th minute.
Santa Ana last won a state title in 1995. The final is at 2 p.m. today at West Valley College in Saratoga.
