Re “Safety of New School Sites Is Questioned,” Aug. 28:
It has been 20 years, almost to the day, since the evacuation of Love Canal, a community that was built on a toxic dump site. And the California Department of Education chooses to celebrate this anniversary by condoning the purchase of land polluted by toxic chemicals and then building schools on it? Sounds like Los Angeles needs its own Lois Gibbs.
