Michael Martinez has been named principal of the 2,800-student Channel Islands High School and will assume his new post Tuesday.
The appointment of Martinez, 42, was made by the Oxnard Union High School District board during a special meeting Thursday, said Wayne Edmonds, director of personnel for the district. Martinez’s most recent post was as vice principal of Roosevelt High School in Fresno.
Martinez has taught at the elementary, intermediate, high school and adult levels and in the prison system, Edmonds said.
Martinez received a bachelor’s degree from Cal State Fresno, and while an undergraduate worked as an English as a Second Language aide and note taker for physically challenged students. He later received a master’s degree in school administration and an administrative credential from National University.
Martinez also completed the rigorous Principals Academy program, sponsored by the Assn. of California School Administrators.
