Lycos Deal the Talk of the Web
The Lycos takeover, and Net stocks’ declines in general, spurred plenty of comments Tuesday in investor Web chat rooms.
One angry investor, referring to a probable alliance between Lycos and Home Shopping Network, proposed a new slogan: “Use Lycos--the rest of the trailer park does.” Another, on the Silicon Investor Web site, referred to Lycos’ “brain-dead deal with [Barry] Diller” and charged that “a lot of people got shot down today because of Lycos--shame on Lycos.” Other comments:
* “If you got burned with Lycos, get your money back shorting Yahoo. Lycos’ deal only better illustrates Yahoo’s overvalue.”
-- A.J., writing on Silicon Investor’s site
* “I don’t think you can call a 30% drop in this sector more than indigestion. Nothing like the meltdown that will come later, when the Internet shifts into a higher level of competition and dilution.”
-- Rob S., on Silicon Investor’s site
