Michigan State Won’t Share Title This Time

Michigan State clinched the Big Ten Conference regular-season title Sunday at East Lansing, Mich., as Morris Peterson scored 13 points in a 56-51 victory against No. 13 Wisconsin, stretching the Spartans’ winning streak to 14 games.
It was the first outright title since 1990 for the fourth-ranked Spartans, 25-4 overall and 14-1 in the Big Ten, who shared the 1998 conference title with Illinois after losing the last game of the season to Purdue.
Sean Mason scored 13 points for Wisconsin (21-6, 9-5).
No. 5 Maryland 91, Georgia Tech 60--Steve Francis scored 22 points and the Terrapins clinched second place in the Atlantic Coast Conference at Atlanta.
Georgia Tech (14-13, 5-9) lost for the sixth time in seven games. The Terrapins are 23-4 and 11-3.
No. 9 Cincinnati 91, Louisville 78--Pete Mickeal scored a career-high 28 points to lead the Bearcats at Cincinnati.
Cincinnati (23-4) pulled even with Louisville (16-8) atop Conference USA’s American Division at 10-4.
No. 19 Indiana 73, Michigan 71--Luke Recker made 22 of 25 free throws and scored 24 points as the Hoosiers (20-9, 7-7 in the Big Ten) survived going nearly 13 minutes without a field goal at Bloomington, Ind. Louis Bullock led Michigan (10-17, 4-10) with 22 points.
No. 20 Iowa 78, Illinois 72--Kent McCausland scored 18 points as the Hawkeyes (17-7, 8-6 in the Big Ten) ended an 11-game losing streak at Champaign, Ill. Damir Krupalija scored 18 points for Illinois (11-16, 3-12).
OTHER GAMES
Dan Langhi and Vince Ford made five of six free throws in the final 11 seconds of overtime to lift Vanderbilt (13-13, 4-10 in the Southeastern Conference), to an 81-75 victory over Alabama (14-13, 4-10) at Nashville. . . . Lamar Odom scored 28 points to lead Rhode Island (17-10, 10-4 in the Atlantic 10) to a 73-67 victory over St. Joseph’s (10-17, 3-11) at Philadelphia. . . . Seton Hall (13-12, 7-9 in the Big East) held off Rutgers, 57-55, at East Rutherford, N.J. The Scarlet Knights are 17-9 and 9-7.
Ron Kelley scored 18 points as North Carolina State (16-11) beat Tulane (10-14), 74-60, at Raleigh, N.C. . . . Jimmie Hunter scored 21 points as Memphis (13-12, 6-8 in Conference USA) beat Marquette, 81-79, at Memphis, Tenn. The Golden Eagles are 13-13 and 5-9. . . . Paul Rainey’s two free throws with 20 seconds left lifted Notre Dame (13-14, 7-9 in the Big East) to a 71-69 victory over West Virginia (10-17, 4-13) at South Bend, Ind.
