Canyons’ Ellison Is Key in Victory Over Oxnard

Anthony Ellison sank a 15-foot jumper with two seconds left to give College of the Canyons an 83-82 Western State Conference men’s basketball victory over Oxnard on Saturday night at Canyons.
Ellison sealed the victory when he tipped the inbounds pass to teammate Sam Harris.
Ellison finished with 21 points and Charles Madison scored 22 for the Cougars (12-8).
D.J. Christian, a 6-foot 6-inch, 260-pound center scored 21 points for the Condors. Canyons used a variety of players to double-team Christian in the second half.
Ron Slater and Sam Harris each had 12 points and eight rebounds for the Cougars.
Bakersfield 76, Moorpark 54--Jeff Fouchey scored 11 points for the Raiders, who made only 20 of 52 shots (38.5%) in a WSC interdivisional loss at Bakersfield.
Clayton Powdrill, from Kennedy High, made five of eight three-point shots and scored 21 points for Bakersfield (15-3).
Moorpark (8-10) was outrebounded, 35-24.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Cal State Northridge 71, Eastern Washington 56--Edniesha Curry made six three-pointers and scored 30 points for the Matadors in a Big Sky Conference victory at Eastern Washington.
Tina Greer added 16 points for Northridge (9-5, 3-1), which trailed Eastern Washington (5-8, 2-1) at halftime, 34-28.
Cal Lutheran 88, UC Santa Cruz 52--Katie Placido made eight of 12 three-pointers, finishing with 26 points, and the Regals made a school-record 14 three-pointers in a nonconference victory at Cal Lutheran.
Cal Lutheran (9-2), which never trailed, scored the first seven points and made 48% of its shots in the game.
Nicole Sanchez added 18 points for the Regals and Missy Rider had 14 rebounds.
The Banana Slugs made only 34% of their shots.
