Mayor Dennis O’Neil announced this week that there is $5.9 million available to build Bonita Canyon Park. The 33 1/2-acre park will be funded through bonds to be paid off by homeowners in the Irvine Co.’s Bonita Canyon housing development. Lower interest rates enabled the Irvine Co. to borrow more money through a bond issue without raising the assessment on each homeowner.
Amenities are likely to include soccer and baseball fields, walking trails, tennis and basketball courts, and undeveloped open space.
