Traffic Diverted Off Freeway After Device Found

Traffic was diverted off all lanes of the Golden State Freeway for about two hours Wednesday after a nonexplosive military device was discovered by Caltrans cleaning crews, according to a California Highway Patrol spokesman.
The device was found at 9:45 a.m. on the freeway’s center divider near the Buena Vista Street exit, said Officer Frank Sansone, a spokesman for the CHP.
Caltrans workers surrounded the gray metal object with safety cones and called Burbank police, he said.
The freeway’s lanes were closed from Lincoln Avenue to Hollywood Way just after 11 a.m., Sansone said.
Los Angeles County sheriff’s bomb squad investigated the device and later detonated it.
The freeway was reopened by 1 p.m., Sansone said.
