Blink-182 Tops the New Arrivals
Jennifer Lopez’s debut as a pop singer got the press and the push, but San Diego punk upstarts Blink-182 headed the pack of new arrivals in the Top 10 of the album chart. Mark Hoppus, Tom DeLonge and Travis Barker followed up their 1997 breakthrough “Dude Ranch” with a collection that registered strongly both nationally and in their Southern California stronghold. Also new to the list: rapper Ja Rule and the retro sounds of the “Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me” soundtrack. Lopez’s album showed more clout in the Southland than it did nationally, and the singer did hold on to the top spot on the singles chart.
