Stars Win on Hull’s Goal

Brett Hull’s power-play goal midway through the third period gave the Dallas Stars a 3-2 victory over the Detroit Red Wings Tuesday night at Detroit.
Colorado 3, Nashville 2--Joe Sakic batted the puck in on a power play with 5:15 left for his team’s second goal in a minute as the Avalanche, the last NHL team to open the season, won at Nashville.
Ottawa 2, New York Rangers 1--Backup goaltender Patrick Lalime made 37 saves and Marian Hossa scored twice as the Senators beat the Rangers at New York. Lalime was filling in for the injured Ron Tugnutt.

The New Jersey Devils reacquired Ken Sutton, getting the defenseman back from the Washington Capitals for future considerations. Sutton was claimed eight days earlier by Washington. . . . Restricted free agent Adrian Aucoin re-signed with Vancouver. . . . Edmonton signed free agent Mike Grier.
