Thousand Oaks 38, Simi Valley 24--Mark Yates intercepted a pass and returned it 80 yards for a touchdown with 28 seconds to play, as the Lancers held off the winless Pioneers at Thousand Oaks.
Thousand Oaks (4-2, 2-0) led, 31-24, and had the ball at Simi Valley’s 40-yard line with 2:54 to play when Michael Hibdon recovered a fumble by Clint Wilson to give the Pioneers (0-6, 0-3) a final chance.
Ben Santiago completed three passes to Calvin Bell to reach the Lancers’ 25-yard line with 40 seconds left. However, Santiago’s pass intended for Julian Santiago was intercepted by Yates.
Thousand Oaks trailed, 12-3, in the second quarter before scoring two touchdowns in the final three minutes of the half, one a 75-yard punt return by Dave Anderson.
Santiago completed 18 of 34 passes for 269 yards.
