It’s Time to Put the Past Behind Us

In response to reader Michael Hawkins’ letter [Sept. 18] about the days gone by in major league baseball, I wonder why he is dwelling on the past.
Sure, it would be nice to have five teams in the National League vying for a single berth in the World Series, and it would be just as exciting to watch four American League teams fight down the stretch. But it also would be nice to go see a movie for five cents, or buy a loaf of bread or the Los Angeles Times for a penny.
I think what Mr. Hawkins fails to realize is that hindsight is always 20-20. So I guess that is why I will wait until after the playoffs and World Series are played to make my predictions.
