* Re “U.S. Math, Science Students Still Trail Top Ranks,” Dec 6: Your article left out a major reason for our students’ poor performance in math and science. They are forced to work with two measurement systems (using some metric in science and using the inch-pound system in most other subjects). The poor showing of our students is partly due to Congress’ reluctance to mandate U.S. use of the metric system, which is the measurement system used by most countries.
