Dashing Knud won California’s richest horse race and recorded his eighth consecutive victory in the $1.28-million Los Alamitos Million Saturday night at Los Alamitos Race Course.
Ridden by Dusty Stimpson, Dashing Knud led throughout the 400-yard race, finishing in 19.70 seconds. The 2-5 favorite returned $2.80 to win. Tiny First Effort, at 25-1, was second, while 9-1 outsider Make It Anywhere finished third in the field of 10 2-year-old quarter horses. The trio combined for a trifecta payoff of $227.20.
Dashing Knud’s trainer, Danny Cardoza, became the first person to ride and train the winner of a million-dollar race. A former jockey, Cardoza rode Pie In The Sky to victory in the $1,000,000 All American Futurity in 1979.
He trains Dashing Knud for owners Vessels Stallion Farm LLC and Gordon Knudsen.
