* AMR Corp. set March 15 for the spinoff of its 83% stake in Sabre Holdings Corp., the world’s biggest travel reservation company, in a transaction valued at $5.69 billion. The parent of American Airlines will distribute 107 million shares of Sabre to AMR stockholders as of March 1, at a rate of about 0.7 Sabre share for each AMR share.

* Recreational Equipment Inc. said CEO and President Wally Smith announced his early retirement after a 35-year career with the outdoor retailer. REI has begun a search for his replacement.
