Planning commissioners approved an amendment Monday that will allow one of the largest businesses in the city to expand its facilities more than previously approved.
A conditional-use permit will allow construction of a three-story building versus a two-story facility at Trend Offset Printing Inc., which has 10 buildings on the north and south sides of Catalina Street east of Cherry Street.
Although the site is in the Planned Light Industrial District, residents who live to the west of Cherry Street had previously complained about traffic and noise.
One woman said operations at the plant “are not conducive to a good night’s sleep.”
Representatives for the company said the noisier aspects of printing magazines and books will be moved farther from those residences after the new building is completed.
