The City Council on Monday approved $1.7 million in redevelopment funds for the Orange County High School of the Arts. School officials will use the money as needed to cover the $16-million cost of opening the new campus.
The school received approval from the Santa Ana Unified school board last month to operate as a charter school in the district, under the condition that 25% of enrollment be reserved for local students. Enrollment is expected to more than double--to 1,100--after the new campus opens in September.
