Fearful of setting a precedent, the City Council recently upheld a Planning Commission decision that denied a service station owner’s request to set up a sign that exceeds city height standards.
The council unanimously denied the request amid concerns that other business owners near Monarch Bay would follow suit.
The owner of a Chevron station in the 32800 block of Pacific Coast Highway asked the Planning Commission in December for permission to erect a 6-foot sign near the street, exceeding the 4-foot limit.
