The Orange County Health Care Agency closed portions of Dana Point Harbor to swimming and diving after a sewage line ruptured and spewed 50 gallons of untreated sludge into the water.
The incident occurred Wednesday when a connecting line that boat owners use to clear their holding tanks became blocked, said Monica Mazur, a spokeswoman for the agency.
The blockage eventually caused the line to break and spill its contents into the harbor, she said.
The docks will remain closed until at least Saturday, when county health officials will retest the water to see if bacteria levels have subsided, she said.
