About 4,000 runners are expected to participate in the seventh annual Southern California Half Marathon Saturday in Irvine.
The race begins at 8 a.m. near Woodbridge High School and will traverse city streets and a bike trail. The course features a different start direction than previous years and does not venture as far east.
The race, which benefits the Woodbridge athletic booster club, is not offering prize money for the first time in five years, which has stopped some of the county’s best runners from entering.
A 5K race will start about 15 minutes after the half marathon begins.
