Abeyta Leads Chapman Women

April Abeyta had 26 points and 16 rebounds as Chapman defeated Worcester State, 65-46, in women’s basketball Friday at Chapman.
Abeyta made 12 of 14 shots and had nine offensive rebounds for the Panthers (9-4). Polly Neves had 13 rebounds for Chapman, which outrebounded Worcester State, 52-29.
The Panthers led by six at the half, then outscored the visitors from Massachusetts, 36-23, in the second half as the Lancers (4-5) missed 19 of 27 shots.
Chapman was held to 34% from the field in the first half, but made 17 of 36 shots in the second half and shot 41% for the game.
In another women’s basketball game:
San Diego 72, Cal State Fullerton 50--San Diego shot 55% in the second half and outscored the host Titans, 37-23. Niesha Cleveland scored 16 points and Allyson Alhadeff had 10 for Fullerton (1-10), which shot 31% from the field for the game.
Susie Erpelding and Jessica Gray each scored 17 points for San Diego (7-5), which made 23 of 28 free throws.
In the UC Irvine men’s volleyball tournament:
UC Irvine 3, Pacific 1--Steve Cavella had 22 kills for the Anteaters, who won, 15-3, 15-10, 2-15, 17-15, in the season opener at UCI. Ty Loomis had 15 kills, 13 digs and six aces for UCI.
Vladimir Andric led Pacific (0-1) with 18 kills.
