Public Invited to Meet Judges

The public is invited to meet and question a panel of Superior Court judges and commissioners at a special forum tonight at Cal State-Northridge.
The Cross-Examine Your Los Angeles County Judges event will feature 15 jurists from Van Nuys, San Fernando and Newhall who will discuss how the Superior Court works and explain other aspects of the legal system.
“It is a wonderful way for judges to meet the community and the community to meet judges,” said Jerrianne Hayslett, spokeswoman for the county’s Superior Court system.
The event was started four years ago by Judge Howard J. Schwab, said Hayslett, who added that the Valley event, probably the largest single group outing of Los Angeles jurists to interact with the public, is unique in the county.
“We are trying to spread this program all over the county,” Hayslett said.
Co-sponsored by the San Fernando Valley Bar Assn. and the CSUN Political Science Department, the forum will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Student Union (Grand Salon), 18111 Nordhoff Street in Northridge. Admission is free.
