U.S. Capitol Revises Visiting Hours
Following protests from tour operators, Congress’ Capitol Guide Board modified a decision announced earlier this year and agreed to keep the Capitol building in Washington, D.C., open to tourists until 8 p.m. daily through June 16. Then the closing time will be 6 p.m. through Aug. 31. The board’s earlier action to close at 6 p.m. March 1 through Aug. 31, based on security and other concerns, had reversed a 3-year-old practice of keeping the building open to 8 p.m. during that period. The building usually closes at 4:30 p.m. daily but has extended hours March 1 through Aug. 31.
