Kennedy Memorial Gets Needed Face Lift

The box-like John F. Kennedy Memorial has become a major landmark since it was erected nearly three decades ago near Dealy Plaza, where the president was killed by a sniper’s bullet in 1963. However, the concrete walls of the giant memorial, described by its designer as an “open tomb,” had become stained and chipped. With the 30-year anniversary of the memorial’s unveiling approaching, the city began a cleaning project. Now, the concrete walls gleam white again, and a rededication ceremony is planned for June 24.
