Working to Save Ballona Wetlands

Re “Sale Offer by Builder May Save Wetland,” Aug. 9: With the offer from the Playa Vista developers to grant an option for the purchase of the Ballona Wetlands, it’s a great day for the thousands of Westside homeowners like myself who dread the prospect of overwhelming gridlock that would be imminent with this development. There is now the possibility of this area being preserved as much-needed parkland. Let’s hope that the California Parks and Recreation Department steps up and acquires the land at a reasonable price that is not tied to the developers’ hopes of a windfall profit and that this area is saved for the benefit of all L.A.s’ citizens.

I don’t know much about the needs of wildlife, but as a resident of Venice, I know all too well the already snarled traffic on Lincoln Boulevard, to and from the airport. If Playa Vista is built, the fastest way to get to LAX from West Los Angeles will be to drive to Las Vegas and fly there.
