Same-Sex Marriage

I agree with Norah Vincent for a change (“A Lot of Hooey on Same-Sex Marriage,” Commentary, Aug. 9). I see no downside in legalizing marriage between gay people. Do the self-appointed guardians of morality really think straight people will quit getting married because gay people do? If they want to keep the institution of marriage alive, they should welcome these new customers. If any couple, these days, want to commit to their relationship in a legal, socially approved way and receive the attendant (what few there are) benefits, I say, great!
