Sonoma County officials rejoiced after a piece of stolen history was recovered undamaged.
An 1870s-era double-barrel shotgun was taken Friday from a glass display case at the home of Mariano Vallejo, founder of the Pueblo of Sonoma who helped write the California Constitution.
The thief discarded the gun during a foot chase with police. It was recovered by an officer who spotted it during the unsuccessful hunt for the thief.
The gun is part of a display in the chalet building next to the Vallejo Home in Sonoma State Historic Park.
