Irvine High Swim Coach Says He Will Retire

Ken Dory, who last season coached the Irvine High boys’ swimming team to its second consecutive Southern Section Division
title, is retiring from coaching, he said Monday.
Dory, the Times’ Orange County coach of the year in 1998 and 2001, said he had grown disheartened after several “persistent accusations” of cheating by other members of an Irvine-based youth swim league, where he also coached.
Dory, 36, said the latest accusation alleged that he used an illegal swimmer on a relay at last weekend’s league championships.
“It’s getting to me,” he said.
